"It's brilliant, being depressed; you can behave as badly as you like. " -- Nick Hornby

I absolutely refuse to buy anything other then food today. I hate Black Friday.

I think that this day is an abuse of the Christmas holiday. It is incredibly stupid to race to the nearest mall right as soon as they open, pushing and shoving just to get the best deals on that fucking little toy your already spoiled child will just die if he doesn't get it for Christmas.

The corporations have done a wonderful job pulling the wool over America's collective eyes. For years they have cut their stocks of cetain items a month or two before Thanksgiving to be able to create a rush. They have convinced us that we have to get our Christmas shopping done as soon as possible. They offer sales that drag people in the door knowing that we will be buying products that aren't on sale that we didn't intend to buy.

I for one think that all this materialism is a disgrace to (pardan the cleche) true meaning of Christmas.

I always do my Christmas shopping late. I ussually go to used book and clothing stores first. I then go to thrift stores. I go to stores like Target last. I get the tapes and wrapping papers and bows at dollar stores (the stuff is just gonna get thrown out anyways might a well get it cheap).

I ussually do my wrapping the day before Christmas Eve. I only buy gifts for my family and a few close friends. I probably only buy gifts for a dozen or so people. I send out Christmas cards only to people who I am close to and only if I am not already getting them a gift.

These things are not because I am dirt poor (though that is one of the reasons). And I'm not a Scrooge or a Grinch. I do it this way because I refuse to get caught up in the False Christmas crap. I love Christmas the old fashioned way, the way it was meant to be. If this means that little Junoir Son of a Bitch doesn't get his PS3, to bad he'll get over it.

I really wish more people would take part in my boycott of Black Friday and the whole False Christmas the big businesses want us to buy into.
