Because it is April fools day I'll tell of the last April Fools day prank I did.

I was like maybe seven or eight at the time and I had the Idea of the old put-some-salt-in-the-sugar-bowl trick. I emptied about half the bowl and filled it back up with salt and placed it back on the kitchen counter.

The thing is we didn't use sugar very often when I was growing up. No one used the sugar that day. Or the next one. and I eventually forgot about it.

Actually no one used it for almost a year.

The thing is this. My mother has made my father little heart shaped sugar cookies for Valentine's day since they were dating. With only a couple exception, my mother has made these cookies for almost thirty years now.

Well wouldn't you know it, that was the day some one finally fell for my littel April Fools Pranks.

My mom was so upset she cried.  She had already made about two dozen salty sugar cookies before she noticed. I don't know if you bake very often but it takes time to do.

My mom had to go to the store and get all the ingredients over again and start from scratch. She ended up spending a whole day on the cookies because of me.

When I saw how upset she was I confessed to my wrong doing. He didn't punish me but she did make damn sure I knew that she was disappointed with me (where do mother's learn how to make their kids feel so guilty?)

I felt so bad I have not played and April Fool joke in the fifteen or so years since.
